Part of project ALiX, led by the Tenerife Cabildo to make Tenerife the hub of a global telecommunications network, has been completed.

CanaLink, the submarine cable consortium  consisting of the Telecommunications Technology Institute Tenerife (IT3) and IslaLink are responsible for transmitting information at high speed from NAP facilities in Granadilla to stations in Rota (Cadiz), Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Centre for Astrophysics in La Palma.

In recent weeks, a group from Alcatel Submarine Networks has been working on the final phase of the connection to the new 2,000 km fibre optic submarine cable which will start operating from the end of March. In the meantime tests are being carried out by another team of experts to ensure that CanaLink's seven submarine cable stations are in perfect working order before they are officially put into use.
